The oil and gas sector remains a fundamental pillar of the global economy, providing energy and
essential resources for modern society. However, some core activities in this industry may present challenges in
fully aligning with the principles of sustainable development and environmental responsibility. This article examines
the relationship between economic growth and ecological protection in the oil and gas sector by analyzing key
environmental challenges, recent technological innovations, and the critical role of policy and corporate social
responsibility. The discussion indicates that exploration, production, and processing activities may have notable
environmental impacts and contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, while also highlighting emerging solutions
such as cleaner extraction methods, carbon capture and storage, enhanced oil recovery techniques, and the
integration of renewable energy. The article concludes that achieving a practical balance requires coordinated
efforts by governments, companies, and civil society, as well as the transparent and accountable implementation
of sustainability strategies.
